Amanda Epps has been a diabetes specialist nurse at Medway NHS foundation trust for the past 7 years, before she specialised in diabetes Amanda was a Senior sister of an acute medical ward at the same trust. Her current role covers specialist care of people with diabetes across primary, community and secondary care. Amanda is a non-medical prescriber and an advanced nurse practitioner; she is currently working towards an MSc in Diabetes at Kings College London.
Amanda is the founder of the diabetes specialist nurse forum UK, an online support group for diabetes specialists which now has over 1700 members. The forum won the prestigious QIC healthcare professional of the year award in 2018 and were invited to meet the prime minister for their work improving diabetes care across the UK.
Amanda has a personal interest in type 1 diabetes as her son was diagnosed aged 7 and recently she was also diagnosed late in life with the condition. Amanda is really looking forward to being able to help support the charity Action4Diabetes by providing education and peer support to those involved in the project.
