Bethany Kelly currently works in Southampton, as a Community Diabetes Specialist Nurse. She has been involved with diabetes care for the last 10 years of her career. She has recently completed her MSc in Diabetes Practice with Swansea University. Bethany has had multiple pieces of work about diabetes care and awareness published. She has also been invited to speak at the Houses of Parliament about her local work with the FreeStyle Libre.
Bethany became Co-Chair of the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Forum UK in 2018. As part of this team, she received the “Healthcare Professional of the Year 2018 award” at the Quality in Care Diabetes Awards. The team were also nominated for the Health Service Journal award for Diabetes Initiative of the Year in 2019.
She joined the Forum for Injection Technique (FIT) board in 2018 and the team published the 5th Edition guidelines in 2020. Bethany has been involved in many International and national speaking and judging events. Bethany enjoys being a lecturer on various topics for the University of Southampton and the Solent University on various BSc and MSc programmes.
Bethany recently founded “Team Diabetes 101” alongside Amanda Epps and Professor Partha Kar as a response to COVID19. This was an MDT group initiative which aimed to provide support and education to people living with diabetes during the pandemic. Bethany’s’ passions lay in young adult and transitional care for people living with Type 1 Diabetes. She also really enjoys pregnancy and technology.
