"My first few months with Type 1 Diabetes were very hard as I taught myself how to take care of myself through following doctors' instructions for how much insulin to take and how to check my blood sugar." - Le Khuong

Le Khuong, a resident of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in his late 20s. Despite the challenges, he embraced education and support to navigate his journey effectively. Le Khuong acknowledged the support he received from his family and friends, stating, "It's been hard and stressful for my mum to find healthy meals for me." Despite the initial challenges, he emphasised the importance of education and support, saying, "Learning about Type 1 Diabetes helped me make a plan for how to deal with my condition."

Regular check-ups and self-care practices played a crucial role in Le Khuong's diabetes management. "Getting checked up every three months has been helpful," he noted. "Parents need to learn with their kids and become their diabetes buddies."Acceptance and adaptation were key themes in Le Khuong's journey.

"Eventually, I learned that I need to take charge of my emotions and let myself heal," he shared. "If everything is fine, we can stick to the same routine."

In his advocacy efforts with Action4Diabetes, Le Khuong finds purpose in helping others and contributing to the community. He encouraged individuals to embrace both the challenges and opportunities that come with Type 1 Diabetes, believing that acceptance and proactive management are essential for a fulfilling life.
