Moe Theint Theint Kyaw: Walking Bravely with Diabetes

Edited: 27.03.2026

"I am a 20-year-old woman living with Type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed at the age of 12 and had to start insulin injections immediately. In the beginning, I faced many difficulties because I didn't fully understand the disease or how insulin worked.

As a child who loved sweets and was terrified of needles, the realization that I had to inject myself every single day was exhausting and painful. I felt completely alone in this journey. During my school days, I struggled mentally; I felt ashamed and sad whenever I had to explain my condition to others.

Fortunately, about a month after my diagnosis, I attended a Diabetes Camp held in my town. There, I met doctors from Mandalay and many other children living with the same condition. Through that camp, I began receiving treatment and medical support in Mandalay.

Once I received proper medical care and shared experiences with friends who were just like me, the daily routine of injecting insulin and checking my blood sugar no longer felt as terrible as I once thought. With regular doctor visits and consistent treatment, I have grown stronger and am now living my life to the fullest.

I have come to realize that having diabetes is nothing to be ashamed of. Though I used to be afraid to share my story, I now openly talk about it with my family, friends, and the community. As a teacher, I also share my experiences with my students at school.

With the help of my doctors, A4D, CDIC, and the unwavering support of my family, I successfully passed my Grade 12 examinations. I am now able to live my best life every day. Without this support, surviving and standing where I am today would have been incredibly difficult.

Therefore, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the teachers, doctors, A4D, and CDIC."
